『민주중보』로 본 해방 후 ‘전향’의 지역적 특성과 미디어의 역할

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the fact that the issue of ideological polarization and selection of systems in South Korea since the activation of the National Security Law system has been manifested in the form of ‘conversion’ through the ‘conversion statements’ published as classifieds on newspapers. The literature reviewed included the entire issues of ‘MinjooJoongbo’ published in Busan (Oct. 1945~Dec. 1949), while the entirety of the ‘conversion statements’ published as classifieds were collected, later to be analyzed by their time, organization, and area. At the same time, the findings were compared with ‘DongbangShinmoon’, a newspaper published in Daejeon, as well as five major national newspapers, in order to analyze the regional characteristics and the roles of newspaper media in ‘conversion’. The ‘conversion’ under the National Security Act system was operated in the form of publishing a ‘conversion statement’ as a classified ad in a newspaper. The researchers discussed whether this system existed on a large scale away from the capital, as well as with the regional characteristics reflected in them and the roles of newspaper media. A total of 63 ‘conversion statements’ were discovered from ‘MinjooJoongbo’, which confirmed that the residents of Busan and Gyeongnam regions at that time had a conversion system in the region by means of running classified ads on ‘MinjooJoongbo’. Since a study on the conversion in Daejeon and Choongnam regions using ‘DongbangShinmoon’ also revealed similar characteristics, it was shown that the space of ‘conversion’ was formed across South Korea under the system of the National Security Act, in which the process of newspaper media was endowed with a crucial role in setting up the form and language of conversion, in addition to the distribution and proliferation of conversion.
