연구 목적: 본 연구는 인도네시아 전래동화 「상꾸리앙」, 「니 로로 끼둘」, 「루뚱 까사룽」의 서사구조 및 여성 등장인물 표상 방식에 나타난 젠더 편향성을 고찰하는 것이다. 연구 방법: 젠더를 남녀 간 관계를 구성하는 재현의 효과로 바라보는 문화적 구성주의를 토대로 상기 세 편의 전래동화 속 서사구조와 젠더 재현이 어떠한 방식으로 성적 차이의 기호와 의미를 생산하는가에 대해 살펴보았다. 연구 내용: 「상꾸리앙」은 영원한 젊음과 아름다움을 지닌 다양 숨비가 아들의 청혼을 받는다는 중심 서사를 통해 아름다움이 여성에게 최고의 가치이며 남성의 호감을 얻는 중요한 수단이라는 가부장적 가치관을 보여주고 있다. ‘공주-피부병-궁에서 숲으로 추방’이라는 공통된 서사구조를 지닌 「니 로로 끼둘」과 「루뚱 까사룽」은 선/악의 이분적 프레임으로 경쟁심과 욕망을 표출하는 여성을 악인화하는 방식으로 가부장 규범에 순응하는 여성을 사회적으로 합의된 여성상으로 노출하고 있다. 결론 및 제언: 인도네시아 전래동화의 여성 표상 방식과 서사구조가 젠더 이데올로기와 맞물리는 지점을 구체적으로 살펴보았으며, 인도네시아의 다양한 지역별 전래동화 속 젠더 재현에 대한 후속 논의의 필요성을 제시하였다.
Abstract
This study aims to find out how gender bias is displayed in the narrative structure and the way women characters are represented in Indonesian fairy tales. For that reason, this study focused on three Indonesian fairy tales, namely Sangkuriang, Ni Roro Kidul, and Lutung Kasarung, by considering the perspectives of cultural constructivism, which is one of the gender analysis methods. Sangkuriang showed patriarchal values and through Dayang Sumbi, the main female character, who has eternal youth and beauty, it exposed external beauty as the most important value for women and as a means for women to gain favor from men. Whilst, Ni Roro Kidul and Lutung Kasarung disclosed women who obey and conform to the authority of the patriarch as an ideal woman through a good/evil dichotomy frame with the similar structure of ‘princess-disease-expulsion from the palace to the forest.’ In addition, the representation of a female protagonist in those two tales who solves difficulties by relying on a male helper led to the fixation on gender roles according to sex differences. The result of this study would open the possibility of a further discussion on gender representation, particularly in traditional fairy tales from various regions of Indonesia.
