본 연구는 노인의 우울이 인지기능에 미치는 영향력을 검증하고 우울과 인지기능 사이에서 사회경제적 지위의 조절효과를 검증하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 고령화연구패널의 7차년도 자료를 활용하였고, 65세 이상 노인으로 총 3,889명을 조절회귀분석모델을 적용하여 분석하였다. 주요 연구 결과로는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 노인의 우울이 인지기능에 유의미한 부적 영향을 미쳤다. 즉, 우울이 증가할수록 인지기능은 저하되는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 사회경제적 지위가 노인의 우울과 인지기능 사이에서 그 영향력을 조절하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 노인의 우울이 인지기능에 미치는 부적 영향력을 사회경제적 지위인 학력, 소득, 경제활동 모두 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과를 기반으로 노인의 우울 예방 및 개입과 사회경제적 지위 향상을 위한 실천적 전략을 제언하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate influence of depression in the elderly on cognitive function and to investigate moderating effect of socioeconomic status between depression and cognitive function. This study used data from the Korean Longitudinal study of ageing (7th), and analyzed a total of 3,889 elderly people aged 65 or older by applying a moderated multiple regression model. The results of this study were as follows; first, depression in the elderly had a significant negative effect on cognitive function. In other words, it was found that cognitive function decreased as depression increased. Second, socioeconomic status moderated relationship between depression and cognitive function in the elderly. In other words, it was found that the negative influence of depression in the elderly on cognitive function decreased by socioeconomic status such as education, income, and economic activities. Based on the results of this study, a practical strategy was proposed to prevent and intervene in depression, and to improve socioeconomic status of the elderly.
