성호학(星湖學)을 계승한 금대는 경전 연구의 목적을 경세치용(經世致用)에 두고 육경에 기초한 복고적인 학풍을 조성하려고 노력하였다. 금대는 ‘당우지치(唐虞之治)’, ‘요순지치(堯舜之治)’를 주장하며, 요순삼대(堯舜三代)의 이상을 현실에서 구현하려는 뜻을 시에 표현하였다. 금대는 김화(金化) 유배를 계기로 백성들의 삶의 현장을 가까이서 지켜보게 되었다. 범 사냥의 실태를 고발하는 시 「사호탄(射虎歎)」이나 장마로 농토를 잃은 백성들의 생생한 실상과 관리들의 세금독촉의 실상을 그린 「검전탄(檢田歎)」과 같은 시에서 애민긍휼(愛民矜恤)하며 안타깝게 탄식하는 금대의 모습을 엿볼 수 있다. 금대는 삶의 지향점을 요순과 같은 성인(聖人)에 두고 일상생활에서 평범한 도리를 실천하는 것을 통해 수신･제가･치국･평천하의 이상적인 사회를 구현하려 하였다. 금대는 정치적 동반자였던 개혁 군주 정조와 함께 경세제민(經世濟民)을 목표로 세상을 경영하고자 하였다.
Abstract
Unlike neo-Confucianists who focused on neo-Confucianism only, in the position of criticizing the reality, Seongho regarded the purpose of studying the scriptures as Gyeongsechiyong (經世致用) and set the final goal of his studying as Yukgyeong (六經) considering it as Jeongjong (正宗). Geumdae who succeeded to Seonghohak (星湖學), too, thought the goal of studying the scriptures as Gyeongsechiyong (經世致用) and strived to establish academic traditions following the old styles grounded on Yukgyeong. In Geumdae’s poems, we can see his view of economy based on Gyeongsechiyong (經世致用). While supporting ‘Dangwoojichi (唐虞之治)’ and ‘Yosunjichi (堯舜之治)’, Geumdae expressed in his poems his will to actualize the ideal of Yosunsamdae (堯舜三代) in reality.Geumdae could not stop feeling miserable and furious about the people’s desperate lives. With his poems such as Sahotan (射虎歎) that reports about the status of tiger hunting and Geomjeontan (檢田歎) that depicts the vivid scenes of the people who lost their farmland for floods and of the officials pushing them to pay taxes, we can glance at the attitudes of Geumdae loving and being sympathetic about the people and also sighing for them lamentingly. Having his pursuit of life as becoming a saint like Liao or Xian, Geumdae attempted to realize ideal society grounded on Susin (修身), Jega (齊家), Chiguk (治國), Pyeongcheonha (平天下) by practicing ordinary duties in everyday life. Along with Jeongjo, the king of reformation who was his political companion, Geumdae tried to manage the world with a goal of Gyeongsejemin (經世濟民).
