Abstract
This study examines the characteristics and meaning of Ekphrasis by analyzing 20th century female poets Carol Ann Duffy’s Standing Female Nude and Eavan Boland’s Degas’s Lanudresses. To this, discussions on the meaning of Ekprasis are examined. The biggest feature of this technique, which has been in use since ancient Greece, is that it was focused on lively explaining literature or art for ordinary people, but it has been changed to interpret the work by specific speaker beyond description about it. However, in this study, it is meaningful to confirm that the two meanings coexist rather than traditionally or modernly distinguish the meanings of the Ekphrasis techniques through the poems of the two female poets, and to interpret them in the social context of the time when the poems were written. Through this, it can be expected that the macroscopic view of interaction between different fields can draw various interpretations of literary works.
