Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of the female body in the poetry of Kim Eon- hee and Kim Min-jung during the 2000s, focusing on how bodily images and sensations are deconstructed and reconfigured. By comparing the poetic strategies of these two poets, it aims to illuminate the literary and political significance that bodily representation acquires at the levels of performativity and affect. Kim Eon-hee’s poetry deploys fragmentation and reassembly of the body to reveal female desire as a sensory field, thereby subverting gender hierarchies and patriarchal structures. In contrast, Kim Min-jung represents the violence and oppression internalized by the female body within institutional spaces such as the family and school, using irony and playful language to disrupt dominant orders through repetitive performative acts. Although the two poets differ in their modes of bodily representation, both share a critical orientation toward dismantling the gendered power structures that constrain women’s bodies. This study analyzes how female subjectivity is newly constructed through bodily disintegration and sensory reconstitution in the poetry of Kim Eon-hee and Kim Min-jung, and further examines how the representation of the female body is shifting toward performative appropriation. Ultimately, this situates Kim Eon-hee and Kim Min-jung within a literary genealogy that rethinks the sensory materiality of the body.
