연구목적: 이 연구는 Mandelbaum(1973)의 생애사 연구방법을 활용하여 지적장애 여성의 결혼적응과정을 살펴봄으로써 지적장애 여성의 결혼적응을 위한 실천개입방안의 기초자료를 제공하는데 있다연구방법: 연구목적 달성을 위해 결혼한 지적장애인 여성 4명과 남편 1명을 연구 참여자로 선정하였다. 심층면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였으며 자료는 Mandelbaum이 제안한 삶의 영역, 전환점, 적응의 3가지 개념틀로 분석했다. 연구내용: 본 연구의 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구 참여자들의 삶의 영역에서는 가정생활, 부부관계, 생활터전, 양육환경 등 네 가지 영역이 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 삶의 전환점 분석에서는 ‘안전지대 구축하여 세상에 고리걸기’로 나타났다. 셋째, 적응분석에서 환경과의 상호작용을 통해 나타난 공통주제는 ‘남들처럼 평범한 일상 꿈꾸기’, ‘낯선 양육세계’, ‘벼랑 끝에 서 있기’로 나타났다. 결론 및 제언: 본 연구결과, 지적장애여성들은 비장애인 여성과 같이 평범한 결혼생활을 하고 있었지만 양육과 독립생활에서 다양한 어려움을 겪고 있었다. 이러한 연구결과에 근거하여 지적장애 여성의 결혼적응을 돕기 위한 시사점과 실천적 함의점을 논의하였다.
Abstract
The objective of this study is to analyze the marital adjustment process of women with intellectual disabilities by utilizing the life history research methods proposed by Mandelbaum (1973) and provide basic data for practical interventions aimed at the marital adjustment of women with intellectual disabilities. The participants selected for this study were four married women with intellectual disabilities and one husband. Data were collected by means of in-depth interviews, and the collected data were analyzed using Mandelbaum’s conceptual framework composed of the following three categories: dimension of life, turning point, and adaptation. The analysis results are as follows. First, the participants’ dimensions of life were classified into family life, marital relationship, living place, and nurturing environment. Second, their turning point of life was “Creating a safety zone and hooking on to the world.” Third, in the analysis of adjustment, the common themes represented through interaction with the circumstances included “dreaming of living ordinary daily lives like others”, “a strange new world of nurturing”, and “standing on the edge of a precipice.” Based on these findings, these women with intellectual disabilities have an ordinary married-life just Based on these results, women with intellectual disabilities have a normal marriage like non-disabled women. However, the participants expressed various difficulties in child-rearing and independent living. This study provided suggestions and practical implications to help the marital adjustment of women with intellectual disabilities.
