본 연구는 독일 통일 후 동독 출신자들이 경험하는 지각된 차별감과 통일에대한 태도의 관계를 파악함으로써 향후 통일된 한국사회의 사회통합을위한 시사점을 도출하기 위해 수행되었다. 연구 목적을 위하여 동독 출신자450명을 대상으로 지각된 차별감, 통일에 대한 태도, 심리적응 수준 등을조사하고, 배경특성에 따른 분석 및 변인들 간의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 분석결과 지각된 차별감 중 집단적 수준의 차별감이 개인적 수준의 차별감보다 통일에 대한 태도와 더 큰 상관관계를 지니는 것으로 나타났다. 또한개인적 수준의 차별감은 자아존중감과, 집단적 수준의 차별감은 삶의 만족도와 더 큰 상관관계를 지니는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 동독 출신자들이일상생활에서 개인적으로 차별을 경험한다고 느끼기보다는 집단적으로차별받고 있다는 생각이 더 강하며, 이러한 집단적 차별의식이 통일에대한 태도에 더 큰 영향을 미치고 있음을 보여 주는 결과로 해석된다. 따라서 추후 통일 한국사회에서 사회통합을 위해서는 자신이 속한 집단이차별받고 있다고 느끼는 인식을 좀 더 집중적으로 다루는 정책적 노력이 필요함을 시사한다.
Abstract
This study investigates the implications of Korean reunification by analyzing the relationship between East Germans’ perceived discrimination and attitude about German reunification. For this purpose, an online survey was conducted in which 450 easterners participated to answer a survey questionnaire about psychological adaptations, attitude about western Germans, perceived discrimination, and one’s attitude about German reunification. The results showed that the group dimension’s perceived discrimination was more strongly related to the attitude about German reunification than the individual dimension’s perceived discrimination. This suggests that the perception that East Germans are discriminated as a group can be a more important factor for social integration than the individual dimension. Therefore, for the integration of Korean society after Korean reunification, integration policy should put more focus on the group level of perceived discrimination and the problem of stereotypes.
