단재 신채호의 러시아 연해주 독립운동

단재 신채호는 국내에서 활발한 언론활동을 한 후 망명하여 상해, 북경, 서간도등 중국의 각 지역, 일본, 대만 그리고 러시아 연해주 등 동아시아의 여러 지역을무대로 하여 역사, 언론, 문학, 사상 등 여러 방면에서 치열한 활동을 전개하였다. 그리하여 그는 한국근대사에서 매우 독보적이며 뚜렷한 족적을 남긴 인물로 평가를 받고 있다. 러시아 연해주 지역은 신채호가 1910년 국망 직전에 국내를 탈출하여 중국 칭다오(靑島)를 거쳐 처음으로 본격적인 해외 망명생활을 시작한 곳이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 연해주지역에서의 신채호의 활동이 본격적으로 다루진 바 없다. 신채호는 블라디보스토크에 입항한 1910년 8월말부터 1913년 7월초 중국 상하이로 이동하기까지 3년이 채 못 되는 기간 연해주 지역에 머물렀다. 당시 연해주지역에 머물면서 신채호는 청년근업회(靑年勤業會), 권업회(勸業會) 등 주요한 한인민족운동 단체에 주요간부로 관련을 맺음과 동시에 이들 단체의 기관지인 ≪대양보≫와 ≪권업신문≫을 무대로 활발한 언론활동을 전개하였다. 이 글에서 필자는 러시아 연해주 시절 신채호의 행적과 관련된 유적들의 현소재지와 상태를 밝히고자 하였다. 이를 바탕으로 향후 러시아 지역에서의 신채호의 활동에 관한 연구가 활발해지기를 바란다. 필자 이 논문을 계기로 역시 신채호의 행적과 활동을연해주지역 민족운동의 전개과정에서 추적하는 심층적인 연구는 별도의 글에서다루고자 한다.
Abstract
Although there are numerous publications about Sin Ch'ae-ho throughout various academic fields of study, his activities in the Russian Maritime Province remain generally unexplored. This article works to illuminate Sin Ch'ae-ho's nationalist activities in this region. Sin Ch'ae-ho spent just less than three years in the Russian Maritime Province from the end of August, 1910 through summer of 1913 before moving to Shanghai. Just within this short period he associated himself with the major Korean organizations in the area such as the Cheongnyeon Geuneophoe (Youth Association for Diligence and Industry) and the Gwoneophoe (Work Promotion Association). In the newspapers published by these organizations based in Vladivostok he served as the editor-in-chief. Regretfully, any historical vestiges or sites related to Sin Chae-ho's nationalist activities in the Russian Maritime Province was not preserved and no longer remain post Stalin's forced deportation of Koreans to Central Asia in 1937.
