There are 18 mood particles used in ≪Laozi≫: 蓋, 夫, 載, 故, 之, 乎, 其, 也, 矣, 者, 焉, 兮, 邪, 與, 已, 哉, 也哉, and 也夫. They are used 135 times in total. 也 is used 9 times as a usage to mark a mood of a statement at the end of a sentence, and 6 times as a usage to indicate a stop in the middle of a sentence, thus the use of 也 in ≪Laozi≫ during the Warning States period is confirmed. 兮 is shown the highest frequency of appearance of mood particles. It is used 12 times as a stop in the middle of a sentence or as a syllable adjustment, and 15 times as a word of exclamation at the end of a sentence. Compared with the appearance of only two times in ≪Master Zuo's Spring and Autumn Annals≫, 兮 is a mood particle that best reveals a poetical style in ≪Laozi≫.
