Abstract
First published in 1979, was initially aimed at publishing research papers by professors affiliated with the College of Humanities at Kookmin University. However, as research institutes affiliated with various departments increased and independent academic journals were published, the journal naturally reestablished itself as a publication under the Department of Korean History. Since 2007, it has allowed submissions from external researchers in addition to internal faculty members. This period marked the journal’s preparation for accreditation, and from Korean Studies Journal Vol. 29 onward, submissions from graduate students (both master's and doctoral) were accepted, leading to an increase in the number of published papers. A significant factor contributing to this increase was the suspension of Bukak Historical Review (Bukaksaron) in October 2003, which expanded the opportunities for graduate students to submit their research papers. Due to the quantitative growth in submissions, the journal has been published biannually (February and August) since 2009. This change brought both qualitative and quantitative improvements to the number of papers published in the journal. As a result, in 2008, Korean Studies Journal was selected as a candidate for accreditation by the National Research Foundation of Korea, and in January 2013, it was officially recognized as an accredited academic journal. The total number of papers published in Korean Studies Journal has now reached 640. Between 1979 and 2006, over a span of 27 years, a total of 24 papers on Goryeo Dynasty research were published, accounting for 3.75% of the journal's total publications and 44.4% of all Goryeo-related papers. As mentioned earlier, during this period, most papers were authored by faculty members of the Department of Korean History due to the journal's nature. From 2007 to 2024, over 17 years and spanning Volumes 30 to 62, a total of 31 papers on the Goryeo Dynasty were published. This represents only 4.8% of the total papers in the journal but accounts for 56% of all Goryeo-related research papers. During this time, the number of submissions increased, and the range of topics expanded. This was due to the journal opening submissions to external researchers in 2007. Furthermore, since Korean Studies Journal Vol. 29, submissions from graduate students (master’s and doctoral graduates) were allowed, contributing to a surge in published papers. The suspension of Bukak Historical Review in October 2003 also played a major role in expanding submission and publication opportunities for graduate students. Since the inaugural issue of Korean Studies Journal in February 1979, a total of 14 researchers have published 55 papers on the Goryeo Dynasty, which accounts for 8.8% of the 640 papers published in the journal. Notably, out of these 55 Goryeo-related papers, only five were authored by external researchers, making up merely 10% of the total. Given that submissions from external researchers have been open since 2007, Menin ej juon oran edik ñe jej lemnok bwe melele ko jen ri ekkatak ro jen ilikin rar bellok jen 2007. It is too small considering that external researchers' thesis submissions have been open since 2007. The frequency of submissions by external researchers majoring in the Goryeo Dynasty can be said to be a very worrisome situation. It seems necessary to pay active attention and prepare alternatives.
