Abstract

The Korean Studies Association, an academic journal specialized in Korean history, can be said to be the research result of the Department of Korean History and the Institute of Korean Studies at Kookmin University, but it is also a product of the times in the Korean history academia. With the reinforcement of national history education in the 1970s, a large number of historical departments were created in each university, and thanks to this, the public theory of Korean history research was expanded to 'university', not only institutions and academic societies. As research institutes and associations established around each university became another research lead, the topography of Korean history research began to change. The Korean Studies Association can be said to be a journal specializing in Korean history that was born under such circumstances. Among the progress of Korean history research in the 1980s, the activation of modern history research was noteworthy, and Cho Dong-gul's research activities, which led to this, served as an opportunity for the Korean Studies Association to become a major academic presentation window in the field of modern history. And the field of modern history, which consisted of research papers by professors Cho Dong-gul and Jang Seok-heung until 2006, expanded by opening the academic doors of the Department of Korean History and the Institute of Korean Studies in the process of entering the registration system. In particular, the extension was expanded in 2009 when a special issue of history textbooks was published. Until 2008, 90% of the research papers included in the Korean Studies Association were research papers on the history of the independence movement, but after becoming a candidate for registration, the research topic was expanded to various fields such as economic history, social history, and cultural history. In addition to social history papers dealing with the multi-layered reality and transformation of colonial society, various papers on cultural history (including cultural heritage), economic history, return of Koreans abroad, ideological relations (including religious history), educational history, and colonial rule were included, and the papers in the field of the independence movement accounted for half (43 articles in total, 50.5%). Considering that the research perspective of Korean history is expanding to everyday history, ecological history, and women's history, the research perspective of the Korean Studies Association needs to be expanded.
