물밀 듯이 밀려오는 정보의 홍수 속에서 모든 정보를 기억하기는 힘들 뿐만 아니라, 이를 모두 읽을 시간도 부족하다. 이러한 어려움 속에 등장한 것이 비주얼 씽킹(Visual Thinking)이고 여기에 여기에 문해적 요소를 더한 것이 비주얼 리터러시 씽킹(Visual Literacy Thinking)이다. 본 연구는 비주얼 리터러시 씽킹을 활용한 강의가 대학생들의 영어학습 능력에 어떤 영향을 끼치는지 알아보고자 실시하였다. 본 연구는 종합대학교의 교양영어 수강자 총 218명을 대상으로 실시하였다. 연구 도구는 사전, 사후 변화를 알아보기 위한 기술통계분석과 성별에 따른 차이를 알아보기 위해 독립 T검정을 실시했다. 또한, 계열에 따른 차이를 알아보기 위해 일원배치분석과 수업의 효율성을 알아보기 위해서는 대응표본 T검증을 실시하였다. 마지막으로 개방형 질문에 대한 키워드 조사를 위해 워드 클라우드를 사용하였다. 연구 결과 흥미도, 효과성, 추후 활용도, 만족도에서 상당히 긍정적 효과를 나타낸 것으로 드러났다.
Abstract
In the midst of an overwhelming flood of information, it is not only difficult to remember everything, but also insufficient time to read it all. Visual Thinking has emerged to address these challenges, and when combined with literacy elements, it becomes Visual Literacy Thinking. This study aims to investigate the impact of lectures utilizing Visual Literacy Thinking on university students' English learning abilities. The study was conducted with a total of 218 students enrolled in a general English course at a comprehensive university. The research tools included descriptive statistical analysis to examine pre- and post-changes and an independent t-test to analyze differences according to gender. Additionally, a one-way analysis of variance was conducted to examine differences according to academic discipline, and a paired sample t-test was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the classes. Finally, a word cloud was employed to investigate keywords from open-ended questions. The study results revealed significantly positive effects in terms of interest, effectiveness, future applicability, and satisfaction.
