Abstract
Financing aspects in the Contemporary American Motion Picture Industry Song, Nak Won Full time lecturer / Film Major, Konkuk University One of the most creative and complicate work in the motion picture industry is not only writing a script and shooting a film, but also financing a movie project. Even many people currently involved in this industry don't think financing is very creative. They'd rather not know about it until they finally wake to notice that without financing their dreams would never be manifest, their ideas and stories would never be told, and their images would never be projected on the screen. While financing is not something to raise fund to pay the bills for the film project, it's what gets the big first step to keep move it and the last step to bring it in front of the audience. Cones explain the various ways in which the five basic financing, production, and distribution options combined. The first is Studio In-house production and distribution, in which the studio finances from development to distribution of the project. The independent producer attached to it is considered an employee of the studio. The second is PFD (Production-Financing-Distribution) agreement, in which the project is submitted to the studio by an independent producer as a complete package and studio provides all finance. The third is Negative pickup arrangement, in which the distributor buy the original negative with the rights to distribute when the delivery is completed. The fourth is Acquisition deals, in which the distributor provides only distribution, P&A, but the producer finances the production cost. The fifth is Rent-a-distributor deals, in which the independent producer finances the all production and distribution cost. The net profit might be more than other financing way, but studios are not likely to make effort for the film on the marketing of rent-a-system.
