New Digital windows and pipelines in the American Film Industry. Song, Nak Won Full time lecturer / Art Division Film Major, Kon Kuk University This essay analyzes new paradigm shifting to digitalize every windows and pipelines in the current American Film Industry. To determine how active the changes are, it would need to draw the map; every windows in the distribution chain for which the movies are still most important inputs. Definitely, the hollywood studio that also is a part of mega media group can dominate the more widely spread out theater circuits so the studio has hold the chance to break the wall between Analoge film and Digital data, but DCI(Digital Cinema Initiative), the new official digital cinema representative of hollywood, begins to move recently to protect their profits and rights and to initate D-Cinema in the Digital Era. Broadcast TV was the first new technology and service to open a new exhibition window for theatrical films after their runs. While the Hollywood studio first boycotted this new technology to protect their traditional theatrical exhibition, they soon understood the TV could provide more profits even after the theatrical show was over. They made another exhibition window for network and syndication TV, usually a few years after the movie circulated enough in the domestic theater industry. As new succeeding technologies, such as Video, Cable TV, Satellite TV, pay-per-view, and now the Digital paradigm; DVD, Digital cable TV, VOD on the internet have arrived, Hollywood welcome them. The studios adjust and controll their distribution and exhibition sequence accordingly to maximize the present value of profits across the many new windows. The most current Windowing is VOD provided via both the broadband Internet service and the digital cable TV.
