Abstract
Humans have long perceived themselves as the masters of the world, the only ones who can instrumentalize matter and machines to create new mental things. Moving away from this anthropocentrism, this study argues that machines have evolved alongside humans, who have been lacking since the beginning of time, and have demonstrated their creative agency. Both the excessive praise and fascination with robot artists and AI art, and the fearful reaction that they will lead to the destruction of the existing art world, are phenomena that stem from seeing humans and machines as separate entities. Instead, we must recognize the interdependence between humans and machines, acknowledging that both are vulnerable. This study reveals that the creative practice of robotic artists such as Ai-Da is, contrary to what is known, a human-machine assemblage working together, and traces how the anthropomorphization of the robot as an artist is also a source of fear. Conversely, loving technology means repositioning humans and machines as interdependent in the current era of excessive technology dependence and shifting to a relationship of mutual care where vulnerable things take care of each other.
