This study focused on inquiry preservice teachers' perceived ideas regarding Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) since their responsibilities to educate elementary school students concerning viruses became more important after the COVID-19 pandemic. This study intended to provide preliminary data for the development of teacher training programs for preventing infectious diseases through the investigation of their understanding, educational needs, and preventive behavior regarding COVID-19. In addition, the participants' variables such as exposure to COVID-19, teaching practicum, education experience, academic year, and specific major were used to figure out the group differences. A total of 309 participants from the fall and the spring terms in the 2021 and 2022 academic years were involved in the online survey, and their responses were statistically analyzed using a t-test and Kruskal-Wallis test of SPSS Statistics 24.0. The results indicated that the preservice teachers generally understood COVID-19 appropriately though minority participants incompletely understood to few questions of the category. In terms of their educational needs on COVID-19, it was revealed that regardless of the academic year or specific major the participants appealed the need to learn conditions of quarantine and discharge, routes of transmission, effective prevention methods, disease characteristics, protection equipment, diagnosis and check examination, a countermeasure for COVID-19, treatment, epidemiological survey, etc. The results of preventive behavior on the COVID-19 showed that they wore a mask daily whereas they answered social distancing is the hardest guideline to carry out. Consequently, being considered its leverage in the field classes, it is critical to grasp preservice teachers' perception of regarding the virus.
