이 연구의 목적은 대학생들의 직업선호도에 따른 가치체계의 차이 유무를 살펴보는데 있다. 특히, 경찰직을 희망하는 대학생들의 가치체계와 타 직군을 희망하는 대학생들 간에 가치의 차이가 존재하는지를 살펴보았으며, 개인의 가치형성을 설명하는 심리학적 성향론과 사회화 과정론에 대한 검증을 실시하였다. 통계적 검증을 위해 대학에 재학 중인 186명의 학생으로부터 유효한 설문지를 받아 조사하였다. 이 연구의 결과 선행연구의 결과와는 달리 경찰학 전공 대학생 집단과 타 전공 대학생 집단 간 가치의 차이는 크지 않는 것으로 나타났으나 경찰인사관리의 측면에서는 의미 있는 결과를 얻었다. 우선 경찰직 희망자들의 가치체계는 현대 경찰에서 중요시되는 지역사회와의 관계개선과 지역사회문제해결에 매우 부합하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 여성경찰관의 채용을 증대시킬 필요가 있고, 경찰학 전공 대학생들은 사회에 대한 봉사에 관심이 많았으며 사회화 과정론 보다는 심리학적 성향론이 보다 지지를 받는다는 결과를 보여주었다.
Abstract
The main purpose of this study was to examine the existence of value gaps across college students' job desirability. In particular, this study aimed to examine value differences between college students pursuing a police occupation as a future career and those of other occupations. Moreover, this study also examined the effectiveness of predisposition perspective and socialization perspective in the value study. With 186 college student samples, the study found valuable results for police selection and recruitment. First, police applicants adequately hold preferable values in order to enhance community relations and to improve problem solving skills which are emphasized in the contemporary policing. Moreover, the findings showed the necessity of more female police officers in police departments. In addition, college students majoring police administration and science are more likely to concern about "help" than those of other majors. Finally, predisposition perspective are slightly superior to socialization.
