Abstract
In Korea, more than 90% of the population lives in cities. The urban environment improvement project is focused on redevelopment and reconstruction, so problems such as crime and fear of crime, social disorganization has become a serious social problem. Fortunately, the urban regeneration projects that have been modified in the direction of the recent attempts to reconstruct the community through the activation center of the city. In this process, a strategy to address the victimization and fear of crime, CPTED is getting very popular. However, research techniques incorporate CPTED review the relationship between fear of crime and urban regeneration projects still was not enough. This study investigated whether there is any relationship between fear of crime and the residents of CPTED recognition. In particular, separated by a 1st-generation and 2nd-generation CPTED, each component is examined the impact of fear of crime. Fear of crime is also examined separately in general and specific fear of crime. It is found that, social cohesion had a significant effect in reducing the specific fear of crime, while community culture/connectivity have resulted in increasing the fear of crime. However, the first generation CPTED recognitions has no significant relationship with the specific fear of crime. On the other hand, there was a significant effects on the relationship between the territoriality of first generation CPTED, social cohesion of 2nd generation CPTED, and general fear of crime. But, there is no significant result in the remaining elements. In conclusion, it is necessary to recognize the impotance of the 2nd generation CPTED than one-sided emphasis on the 1st generation CPTED. In addition, the development of program which can actively utilize the 2nd generation CPTED techniques are requested.
