글로벌화는 다양한 영역에서 논의되고 있는 중요한 시장 환경 요소이다. 항만물류산업도 글로벌화와 밀접한 관련이 있다. 항만물류산업은 2000년대 중국을 포함하는 이머징 시장(emerging market)의 급속한 경제성장과 함께 호황을 누렸지만 2008년 글로벌 금융위기 이후 장기적 침체를 경험하고 있다. 이러한 시장 환경에서 컨테이너항은 효율성 및 시설확충을 통한 경쟁력 제고를 위해 많은 노력을 기울이고 있다. 또한 환적 물동량을 확보하기 위해 다양한 전략을 수립·이행하고 있다. 환적화물 유치를 위해 항만 인프라 및 해운 네트워크로 대변되는 다양한 컨테이너항 역량들이 강조되고 있다. 본 연구는 글로벌화가 컨테이너항 역량과 환적 물동량에 미치는 영향에 대해 이론적인 배경과 함께 실증적인 분석을 실시하고자 한다.
Abstract
Globalization has been discussed as an important market environment in various territories. Maritime industry is also closely associated with globalization. Together with globalization, faster, more reliable, and cheaper maritime transport services have facilitated the expansion of global trade. With the development of emerging economies, the maritime industry had increased dramatically. The rise of China as the world manufacturing center was a key driver of this growth. Since 2008, however, there have been some declines because of the global financial crisis. It is not easy for container ports to have a sufficient container cargo volumes including transshipment. Therefore, container ports in individual countries require effective strategies for generating sufficient container traffic. Through a country-level analysis, this paper is designed to empirically investigate the influences of globalization on individual container ports' internal capabilities and transshipment traffic volumes.
