중국의 항공운송시장은 개혁개방 및 1988년 동방항공의 설립과 중국정부의 저가항공사 규제완화로 급격한 성장세를 보이고 있다. 2018년 기준 중국 3대 국유자본 항공사가 항공운송시장에서 차지한 비중은 70% 가까이 유지하고 있으나 저가항공사의 급부상으로 3대 국유자본항공사의 이윤이 50%정도 감소하였다. 이에 본 연구는 중국 국내선 여객처리량을 중심으로 3대 국유자본항공사, 민간대형항공사, 주요 저비용항공사간 간 경쟁 및 협력관계 존재 여부와 영향 정도를 살펴보고, 향후 중국 항공운송산업의 전반적인 효율성을 확보를 위한 정책적 시사점을 제시하였다. 그랜저 인과관계 분석결과, 대형국유항공사와 LCC의 경쟁 관계가 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 오차수정모형과 그 충격반응함수 분석을 통해 대형국유항공사와 LCC간 수요 변화가 경쟁구조에 미치는 영향력이 큰 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
China's air transport market has experienced rapid growth due to the establishment of Eastern Airlines in 1988 and the Chinese government's deregulation policies, which benefited low-cost carriers (LCCs). As of 2018, China's three major state-owned airlines accounted for nearly 70% of the air transport market, but the rapid rise of LCCs has reduced profits of the state-owned airlines by 50%. This study examines competition and cooperation in the Chinese airlines industry, which includes state-owned airlines, large private airlines, and LCCs, and suggests policy options for improving the overall efficiency of the industry. In addition, an analysis of Granger causality demonstrates a competitive relationship between large state-owned airlines and LCCs. Finally, analyzing the error correction model and its impact response function showed that a 1% change in demand has a significant impact on competition between large state-owned carriers and LCCs.
