이 연구는 혼불에 나타난 작중인물들의 삶의 방식과 관련하여 내면적· 심리적 상황의 정합성을 규명하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 작중인물의 삶은 필연적으로 과거의 사건과 연동되어 나타나기 마련이다. 과거의 사건으로부터발생하는 무의식의 추동 의미를 ‘소환 콤플렉스(summons complex)’라고 정의할 때, 텍스트 내부에 건설된 시간·공간 이미지는 작중인물의 불안·공포·단절·죽음·허무·광기 등의 의식/무의식과 연관된다. 먼 과거에서 이어져 온 인간 삶의 방식은 다양하면서도, 그 살아온 시간·공간의 위상은 인간의 내면에 자리 잡은 향수·추억과 관련하여 구성된다. 소설의 텍스트 내부에 존재하는 작중인물의 경우 그 존재를 증명하는 유일한 단서는 기억의 재생 혹은 기억의 소환에 의지할 수밖에 없다. 혼불의 경우, 텍스트 내부에 건설된 시간·공간 이미지 자체가 식민지현실에 대한 뒤틀린 ‘기율(奇慄)’을 보여주고 있다. 이러한 양상은 매안마을 인물을 중심축으로 하여 거멍굴·고리배미 인물들 간의 삶의 방식에서 드러난다. 인물과 인물의 삶의 방식에는 필수적으로 상호 대립과 갈등, 연대와공존 등 사건에 대한 실제적이며 선험적인 체험이 존재하기 마련이다. 이러한 단서들은 인물 내면의 트라우마를 증폭시키거나 기억으로부터 망각을 추동하는 소환 콤플렉스로 작용하며, 거시적으로는 혼불이 일제강점기 ‘인간적 해방’을 지향하고 있음을 말해준다. 본 연구는 혼불의 텍스트 내부에 살아가는 작중인물의 ‘존재적 정체성’ 과 ‘실존성’ 사이의 ‘소환 콤플렉스’를 규명하고, ‘죽음’·‘불안의식’·‘꿈’을 둘러싼 무의식의 반응으로써 근원성에 대해 해명하고자 하였다. 이와 함께 혼불에서의 ‘혼불’의 본질에 해당하는 ‘전통의 복원 문제’, ‘인간성 상실의 문제’, ‘삶의 터전에 관한 문제’ 등 작가의 의식/무의식 상황에 대한 규명에 본연구의 의의가 있다.
Abstract
The This study is aimed to investigate the internal and psychological consistency of the characters in ‘Honbul’ related to their life styles. It is certain that the life of the character in the story will be appeared in conjunction with the past incidents, inevitably. Defining the meaning of unconscious ‘reappearance’ on the past incident as ‘summons complex’, temporal and spatial images of the character developed inside the context as the basis of life are related to his/her consciousness and unconsciousness such as anxiety, fear, disconnection, death, futility, madness, and so on. Life styles of the human-beings originated from the past are dynamic, and the temporal and spatial positions are organized related to the nostalgia and memory inside the human-beings. For the characters in the novel, the only clue to verify their existences is dependent on the replaying or summons of memory. In ‘Honbul’, the temporal and spatial images developed in the context show distorted Giyul against the reality of the colony. It is certain that there must be real and transcendental experiences including confrontations, conflicts, collaborations, coexistences, and so on in the meanings of characters. These clues work as summons complex to amplify the internal trauma or facilitate the oblivion, demonstrating ‘Honbul’ to pursue ‘the humanity liberation’ in the Japanese colonial era. This study was conducted to identify ‘summons complex’ between the existence identity and facticality of the characters in the context of ‘Honbul’ and to clarify the origin of unconscious responses related to death and dream. In addition, this study has the meaning to investigate the unconscious situation of the characters in the novel such as ‘issue of tradition recovery’, ‘issue of humanity loss’, ‘issue of living foundation’ and so on in ‘Honbul'.
