본 연구결과를 통해 학령기 아동의 응급상황에 대한 대처능력정도는 매우 낮게 나타났으므로 이에 대한 교육이 시급히 요구된다고 볼 수 있다. 초등학생이 경험할 수 있는 응급상황을 예방하고 대처하기 위한 대책으로 우리 주변을 에워싸고 있는 각종위험한 환경요인을 제거하여 안전성을 충분히 확보하는 것이 바람직한 방향이지만, 현실적으로는 우리생활 주변에서 일어날 수있는 위험요소를 잘 구별하고 올바른 판단에 따라 적절히 대처하거나 사고가 발생했을 때 적절한 행동을 취할 수 있는 능력을길러주는 교육이 중요하며 필요하다 하겠다. 즉, 학교에서 실시하는 응급상황에 대한 대처교육이나 정보제공 등이 이에 대한지식, 가치관, 태도에 직접적이고 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로생각된다. 그러나 응급상황에 대한 대처교육은 단순히 지식이나 정보 전달로 끝나는 것이 아니라 이를 행동으로 옮길 수 있도록 생활화하고 습관화되기 위해서는 지속적이며 체계적이고아동의 발달연령에 따라 차별화된 대처교육의 기회를 제공하는것이 필요할 것으로 생각된다. 동시에 이를 확인하기 위해서는실제로 대처교육을 실시한 후에 효과를 검증하는 절차도 뒤따라야 할 것이다. 또한 사회, 국가적으로도 응급상황시의 대처에대한 교육과 훈련의 중요성을 인식하고 대처교육을 지속적으로실시해야 할 것으로 생각한다. 본 연구결과를 기초로 다음과 같은 제언을 하고자 한다. 첫째, 학령기 아동의 응급상황에 대한 대처교육이 시급함을인식하고 이에 대한 실제적인 교육을 실시할 수 있는 준비가 필요하다. 둘째, 학령기 아동의 수준에 적합하며 흥미와 관심을 유도할수 있는 교육 프로그램의 개발이 요구된다. 셋째, 학령기 아동의 응급상황에 대한 대처능력에 영향을 미치는 요인을 파악하여 그러한 요인을 강화시켜 주는 노력이 요구된다. 넷째, 학령기 아동을 대상으로 응급상황에 대한 대처교육을실시한 후, 그 효과를 측정하는 연구가 필요하다.
Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data to improve coping abilities of elementary school students in emergency situations. Method: The data were collected from 1633 3-6th grade elementary school students using a self-report questionnaire. Results: 1) The mean score for the coping ability of the students was low at .38 (±.36). 2) The mean scores for the 8 categories were, [Care for common symptoms], .54 (±.48), [Call for help & check], .47 (±.43),[Care for injury by heat∙cold & foreign body], .39 (±.45), [Care for tissue damage], .36 (±.44), [Offering help], .36 (±.42),[Rescue & escape], .31 (±.51), [Evacuation], .28 (±.49), and [Appropriate response for the situation], .27 (±.43). The mean scores for 2 areas were, ‘Acting tips’, .35 (±.36) and ‘First aid’, .42 (±.40). There were significant differences in coping ability according to students’ gender (t=4.964, p<.001), and family type (t=-2.484, p=.013). 4) Among the categories,there were significant correlations between all 8 categories and significant correlation between ‘Acting tips’ and ‘First aid’(r=.808, p<.001), ‘Acting tips’ and ‘Coping ability’ (r=.956, p<.001), and ‘First aid’ and ‘Coping ability’ (r=.946, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings indicate a need for programs to improve the coping ability of elementary school students in emergency situations.
