초록

The purpose of this study is to find the optimum condition for WPC (Wood Plastic Composites) production using recycled fiberboard and EPS (Expanded Poly Styrene). WPC made by the conventional method has been problematic in physical properties due to uneven combination of adhesive and wood powder. In order to solve this problem, phenol resin and recycled fiberboard wood flour were mixed to prepare a prepreg (preimpregnated reinforcement), which is an intermediate that imparted flexibility to wood flour. WPC was prepared by dissolving thermoplastic EPS in xylene and mixing with prepreg. As a result of the water absorption test, the optimum conditions for WPC production were a molding pressure of 110 to 130 kg/cm2, a molding temperature of 60°C and a prepreg mixing ratio of 15 to 20%. The specific gravity of the control group was 1.3, whereas the weight of the target WPC specimen was as low as 1.03. As a result of application of the water resistance property which is an advantage of EPS to the manufacturing of WPC, the Quality Standards (KS F 3230) of water absorption rate in Korea is close to 8.0% and 6.0%. In the case of the flame retardant test, only the carbonized layer was generated even after heating for 5 minutes, and ignition did not occur.
