소형 주거환경을 위한 가변형 벙커침대 디자인 연구

Abstract

This study proposes a transformable bunk bed-wall bed hybrid design to address spatial limitations in small housing units occupied by single-person households. Literature review identified fundamental constraints of compact dwellings, including limited floor area, low ceiling height, and overlapping daily functions. To reflect real user needs, a survey of 80 individuals in their 20s and 30s was conducted. The results showed major discomforts such as insufficient storage, poor lighting around beds, and the excessive space consumption of fixed beds. Users emphasized the importance of space efficiency, structural safety, durability, easy transformation, and multifunctional features such as a large desk, sofa, and diverse storage modules. Based on these findings, the study developed a modular system that integrates sleeping, working, resting, and storage functions within a single transformable structure optimized for typical Korean small homes. This research offers practical insights for multifunctional furniture design aimed at improving compact living environments.
