Abstract

The objective of this study was to investigate the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of gold extract and explore its potential use as a cosmetic ingredient. The Scutellaria baicalensis extract was obtained using 70% ethanol extraction and fractionated with organic solvents. Antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) and Malassezia furfur (M. furfur) was tested for both the Scutellaria baicalensis extract and its fractions. Anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated through pancreatic lipase inhibition and analysis of nitric oxide (NO) production in RAW 264.7 cells. the results showed that the Scutellaria baicalensis extract and its fractions exhibited significant antibacterial activity against P. acnes and M. furfur, with minimum inhibitory concentrations confirmed at approximately 10,000 μg/mL. Furthermore, the Scutellaria baicalensis extract and fractions demonstrated potent pancreatic lipase inhibition activity up to 1,000 μg/mL. They showed no toxicity up to 50 μg/mL and dose-dependently reduced LPS-induced NO production in RAW 264.7 cells. these findings suggest that Scutellaria baicalensis extract exhibits important antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, indicating its potential development as a multifunctional cosmetic ingredient.
