미국 초등 사회과 교과서의 구성 체제 분석

연구목적: 본 연구는 미국 초등 사회과 교사용 지도서 3종의 구성체제를 분석하고, 한국의 사회과 교과서 개발에 필요한 유의미한 시사점을 얻고자 하였다. 연구방법: 연구 방법은 문헌 분석 연구이다. 교과서 분석 기준은 이종일 등(2004)의 연구에서 사용한 분석 기준을 참고하여, 본 연구의 목적에 맞게 수정하였다. 구체적으로 단원 목차. 단원 도입, 단원 전개, 단원 마무리로 나누어 단원의 구성체제를 분석하였다. 연구결과: McGraw-Hill, Scott Foresman, Harcourt사의 사회과 교과서를 분석한 결과, 다음과 같은 공통적인 특징이 있었다. 첫째, 미국 사회과 교과서 3종 모두, 수업의 도입이나 마무리에서 학습 내용과 연계할 수 있는 다양한 문학 작품을 제시하고 있었다. 둘째, 미국 사회과 교과서에서는 체계적으로 지도 기능, 읽기 기능 등 구체적으로 기능들을 소개하고 있었다. 셋째, 미국 사회과 교과서에서는 단원 도입에서 학생들의 배경 지식을 활성화하고, 단원의 목표가 무엇인지에 대해 매우 구체적으로 알려주고 있었다. 논의 및 결론: 종합해 보면 미국의 사회과 교과서는 한국의 초등 사회과 교과서와 비교하였을 때, 보다 학생들이 공부할 방향에 대해서 친절하게 안내해 주고, 자기 주도 학습을 촉진하는 교과서라는 결론을 내릴 수 있다. 이러한 점들은 차후 사회과 교과서 개발에 도입할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
Purpose: A purpose of this study was to analyze unit framework of three social studies textbooks published in America and to find meaningful suggestions necessary for the revision of elementary social studies textbooks. Method: Research method is was the analysis of the literature. The main criteria for analyzing textbooks was followed the criteria used in Lee(2004)’s study. Specifically, this study analyzed unit table, factors of the unit, description of the text, organization of the unit. Results: The results of this study were as following: First, American social studies’ textbooks provide various literature associated with the unit. Second, American social studies’ textbooks provide skills that are helpful for achieving the goal of the class. Third, American social studies’ textbooks provide various materials to help students have various background knowledge. Conclusion: It is necessary for us to study textbooks and to reflect good points on the revision of the textbooks.
