은봉 박인덕이 신여성이라는 자기정체성을 형성하고 여성 계몽운동가이며 교육가로서의 삶을 사는 데 있어서 기독교 신앙은 매우 중요한 역할을 하였다. 특히 노년의 나이에 회심을 통하여 박인덕의 삶과 신앙은 변화한다. 박인덕의 회심은 전반적으로 보면 평생 진행되는 점진적 회심에 가깝다. 물론 박인덕이 신비한 영적 체험을 한 것은 갑작스러운 회심의 모습으로도 보인다. 그러나 박인덕의 회심은 단발적인 사건은 아니다. 박인덕의 회심은 감정적 폭발이었다가잠시 후 가라앉은 것이 아니라 삶의 위기를 겪고 성공과 실패를 하면서 신앙이 점진적으로 발전하여 영적 체험의 날에 정점에 이른 것으로 보인다. 회심을통해 위기를 극복한 박인덕은 1963년 67세의 나이에 “한국의 베뢰아”라는 꿈을 인덕실업고등학교를 설립함으로써 실현하였다. 이것은 개인적인 꿈의 실현뿐만 아니라 신앙과 회심의 사회적 결과라고 볼 수 있다.
Abstract
Christian faith played a significant role in the life of Induk Pahk forming her self-identity as a New Women, living as an activist of Women Enlightenment and an educator. Particularly, her life and faith were changed through conversion at the age of 61. Induk Pahk's conversion can be categorized as a gradual conversion proceeded in her whole lifetime, although a part of her spiritual experience is similar to some features representing sudden conversion. Her conversion is not a single event. It was not merely an emotional explosion sank soon. It seems her conversion had been gradually processed through experiencing successes and failures in her life and reached the zenith on the day of spiritual experience. Overcoming the crisis of her dream “Berea in Korea” through the conversion, Induk Pahk established Induk Vocational High School in 1963 when she was 67. This is not merely a realization of a personal dream. But it is also a social embodiment of her faith and conversion.
