서간도 망명지식인 상경헌 이능호의대응논리 연구

Abstract

Sangkyeongheon(常敬軒) Lee Neungho(李能灝, 1854~1919) is a typical Confucian scholar who devoted himself to studying Cheng-Zhu school and trying to fulfill the Tao of Confucianism in his whole life in the countryside. After the Gyeongsulnyeon national disgrace(庚戌國恥), he went into exile to Seogando(西間島) just because he thought that he couldn’t observe the Tao of Confucianism any longer if he remained in Korea. He lived there for 8 years until died. This paper researched on his poems about exiled life, his desire to realize the Confucian social order, and his resistance to injustice through the work created by him in Seogando. Although the country and the ancestral temples had been trampled after the Gyeongsulnyeon national disgrace, there remained many great Confucian scholars who devoted themselves to defending the Tao of Confucianism. There had been someone who took suicide just to defend the Tao of Confucianism. We can say that Lee Neungho had taken another way to defend this Tao. In this age everyone seems to be too busy on making money and consolidating his power. Let us remember the name of the scholar who never forgot his conscience and died aboard.
