Abstract

This study aims to examine the current status of the classics DB service related to Korean Studies, seeking a service plan suitable for the digital reading era. Currently, the Korean Studies Classics DB services are being conducted by several institutions. There are two most common data approaches. One is directory services and the other is search services. Directory services may confuse users because they are provided according to diverse criteria for classification depending on the characteristics of each institution's collections. Although the search services has a good search function, it is difficult for users to access the information they want because they provide search results in the form of a simplified list. The conclusions of this paper are: In order to improve the above problem, first, the improvement or establishment of the directory services was proposed. It was considered desirable to apply such criteria for classification as subject, form, author, and thought that non-experts can easily understand. Second, improvement of the search result provision method was proposed. Instead of providing a simplified list of search results, a method was proposed to provide a group of search results by meaning, through establishing a meaningful relationship network among the lists of search results. On the other hand, it was proposed to introduce digital curation to promote the reading of classics in Korean Studies. By linking the individual data in the Classics according to the semantic relation and understanding the information comprehensively, it is presented so that a knowledge system can be constructed. In addition to introducing digital technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence to the translation and research of classical information, we looked at ways that non-professionals can use the Classic DB smoothly through this method for services.
