본 연구는 국민의식이 국가발전에 영향을 주고 있으며 중국 국민의식을 파악하는 작업은 한·중 양국의 건설적 발전을 위해 필요한 기본작업이라는 생각에서 진행되었다. 본 연구는 중국 국민들의 개혁개방 이후 국민의식 변화를 실증적으로 분석하기 위해서 국제시민의식조사 자료인 World Values Survey 1990년, 1995년, 2001년 3개년도 중국자료를 이용해 실증적으로 분석하였다. 중국 국민의식을 크게 5개 분야로 나누어 살펴보았는데 항목별로 보면 일관된 경향을 찾을 수 없을 정도로 다양한 결과가 도출되었다. 그럼에도 확실하게 말할 수 있는 한 가지 사실은 중국 국민들의 국민의식이 계속 변화하고 있었다는 것이다. 주요 부문에 대한 결과를 정리하면, 먼저 생활부문에 대한 중요도 인식 수준이 연도별로 의미 있는 변화가 있었다. 대체적으로 1995년 상승했다가 2001년에는 다시 떨어지는 양상을 보이고 있었다. 둘째, 국가만족도에 있어서 전반적인 경향은 1990년에 비해 1995년 국가에 대한 만족감이 높아졌다가 2001년에는 다시 낮아지는 상황이었다. 셋째, 사회변화에 대해서 경쟁>수입격차>개인역할>사영기업 확대 등 순서로 시장경제 논리를 수용해 나가고 있는 것으로 보인다. 넷째, 정부정책에 대해서는 경제·사회안정 등 보수적인 정책을 선호하고 있는 것으로 보인다. 마지막으로 개혁개방 이후 중국의 국제적 위상이 높아지면서 자국에 대한 소속감과 국제적 감각도 높아지고 있는 것으로 보였다.
Abstract
The economic reform called 'Reform and Open' in the China were started in 1978 by pragmatists within the Communist Party of China led by Deng Xiao Ping and are ongoing as of the early 21st century. The goal of Chinese economic reform was to generate sufficient surplus value to finance the modernization of the Chinese economy. In sociology and political science, the notion of national attitude is defined as the way that individuals label themselves as members of particular nation. National attitude has played a functional role in state development. By emphasizing national attitude, government has sought to strengthen the nation both by improving members' sense of confidence. This paper posits that national attitude is an important element in explaining nationality towards the Chinese. The change of Chinese national attitude has been a paradigm shift, from ethics and ideal personality to individualism as a central value since the beginning of the 'Reform and Open'. This conversion is a progress of historical development but some issues remain to be treated seriously. This paper analyzes and evaluates Chinese national attitude base on World Values Survey data on their attitudes towards the criteria of some key conceptual components of the national attitude. Since reform and open policy, although the vicissitude of Chinese national attitude is extremely complex, generally speaking it may be summarized as that aspects: from overall values to overall values and individual values fusion change; from ideal values to ideal values and common custom values coexistence change. However, it is not clear what is made the national attitude. This will be another research topic.
