Making Social Relationship with Natives: The Case of Indonesian Migrants in Wongok-Dong

The purpose of this research is to identify aspects of making relationship between Indonesians and Koreans in Wongok-Dong context. Through conducting an ethnographic research, more specifically, I endeavors to answer the question that how Indonesian migrants recognize the relationship with Koreans and make an efforts to obtain Korean networks in Wongok-Dong. Its research reveal that Indonesian migrants can reinforce their social status by having social link with Koreans. Although Indonesian migrants emphasize that they can access the benefits such as developing their Korean language skill and solving various problems in relationship with Koreans, their expectation is lifting their social status among Indonesian migrants from having Korean friends that arise from the difficulties of building those relationship, However, securing Indonesian networks is precondition for obtaining Korean networks. Hence, the result of this research contribute to building a bridge between existing researches and this work for deep understanding about Indonesian migrants’ processes of making social relationship in Wongok-Dong.
