Abstract

Growing number of serious mental health problems among college students is gaining status as an important social issue. This study focused on implementing psychiatric rehabilitation services, a proven intervention for effectively managing problems associated with mental illnesses and enhancing stability of daily life for individuals with psychiatric disabilities, as part of on-campus rehabilitation counseling services. Supported education program as a tangible counseling strategy improves dropout rates effectively for students with psychiatric disabilities. Prevention education, crisis intervention, management for medication and side effects, and development of various counseling strategies for stress management are discussed as potential on-campus rehabilitation services for students with psychiatric disabilities. In addition, basic principles and administrational recommendations are suggested for the utilization of psychiatric rehabilitation services in universities.
