초록

It is well known that Zainichi Chosenjin are the legacy of Japanese imperialism, as well as the obviously oppressed under the occupation policies of GHQ, along with being the “post-oppressed” by the North-South division of the Korean peninsula; furthermore, they are currently in a state of exception as they are isolated from the country. To fight against these common perceptions of Zainichi Chosenjin, the Gyegan Samcheolli introduced the problems of the “post-modern era,” and attempted to break the prevailing ideas of the nation-state. In particular, it redefined the modern idea of nation, ethnicity, and people while focusing on the “settlement” phenomenon. The Gyegan Samcheolli discussed, in relation to American policies, the fact that Zainichi Koreans were considered Japanese citizens before the war, but foreigners after. The magazine claimed that this was a branch of “nation-state without subjectivity.” At the same time, the magazine regarded the divided “Korean peninsula, the homeland” as a country oppressed by the ideology, and attempted to separate the term by using square brackets. During the process, the Zainichi Chosenjin accepted the fact that they “reside in Japan (Zainichi),” and attempted at self-revolution based on their actual lives and experiences against the idea of “exclusive” citizens developed by the North and South Koreas, Japan, and the United States. While passing down the legacies innate to the idea of Zainichi Chosenjin, Zainichi Kankokujin/Chosenjin, and Zainichi, they reviewed the conditions based on which the legacies were formed, and established their subjectivity as “Zainichi.” This paper puts into contrast the thoughts of Sato Katsumi, a partyist in favor of the nation-state, with the criticism of “epistemology” based on the grounded theory of Zainichi presented by Kim Seok-beom, Kobayashi Masaru, Goto Meisei, Isogai Jiro and the internalization of the ideas of the “modern state” presented by Takeda Seiji. This is aimed to overcome the duality of the old nation-state theory and the theory of postnationalism by linking it with postmodernism. Ultimately, it is to go beyond the concept of subject to move on to a new world to gain a new world perspective, and dissolve the old theory of nation-state.
