초록

This study is based on examining the current status and cases of Global Citizenship Education in Korea and abroad and suggesting ways to spread Global Citizenship Education in Korea. Global Citizenship Education is one of the core issues of the global education agenda, and the main point is the spread of Global Citizenship Education in Korea and abroad communities. the Global Citizenship Education Forum held in Korea in September 2019, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education, is one of the discussions on the spread of global citizenship. In particular, global citizenship education is a a significant issue that appears as an integrated form of many education programs implemented by the UN. This study examines the current status and practices of global citizenship education in other countries, including Ireland, Germany, Poland, Sweden, and the Netherlands, and compares them to the current status and practices of global citizenship education in Korea. Global Citizenship Education in Korea has a strong characteristics as an educational movement that has been consistently practiced in Korean society, however unlike Global Citizenship Education in Europe, global citizenship education has not been government-led completely. Instead, an education project was carried out to dispatch instructors to schools, centered around KOICA, an external grant-aid agency, and KCOC, a council of private organizations. However, despite the fact that various NGOs are providing education, the NGOs' data sharing or collaboration in developing integrated educational materials is still not sufficient. In order to perceive the current status of education in more detail, we looked into the significance and limitations of education by each institution, such as UNESCO Asia-Pacific Institute for International Understanding Education, World Vision Global Citizenship Education, and KOICA Global Citizenship Education, and developed a plan to spread of global citizenship education in Korea, Two strategies are suggested. First, the establishment of an official institution dedicated to Global Citizenship Education. and second, to integrate and develop the separate multicultural education, international understanding education, and character education into global citizenship education. In this study, two strategies were presented and each strategy was explained in detail.
