한국학의 탈서구적 정체성을 위한 시론

본 연구의 목적은 서구적 학문체계에 의해 분과 학문화되고, 서구에 의해 타자화 된 한국학의 주체성을 되살려 보고자 하는 것에 있다. 그동안 한국은 하나의 인식 주체로서의 존재해 왔기보다는 타자로부터 인식 되어 지는 비문명화 된 국가에 불과했다. 이는 문명화의 주체로서 유럽-서구의 보편성을 전제한 것일 수밖에 없다. 즉, 서세동점(西勢東漸)으로 요약되는 소위 근대화 과정 은 한국을, 그리고 동아시아를 철저히 대상화했다. 이러한 인식론적 접근은 ‘근대화 론’이나 ‘서구중심주의’, 나아가 종속적 ‘선진국 담론’을 고착화시켜내어 왔다고 본 연구는 바라보고자 한다. 본 연구는, 따라서 이러한 종속 담론에서 벗어나, 현재 한국의 세계적 위상에 걸 맞은 한국학이 나아가야 할 방향을 설정하는 한편, 이를 위해 필요한 서구적 관점 에서 벗어나 지역 국가로서의 한국을 되살려 보고자 한다. 이는 아류 지역학이라는 오명에서 벗어나 한국학의 주체성을 되살리기 위한 구체적 시도라는 점에서 학문적 유의미성을 지닌다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is reviving the subjectivity of Korean studies, subdivided by the Western centrism and “othering” by the Western oriented epistemology. In the most of studies on Korea has not existed as a cognitive subject but has been only a non-civilized country recognized by others(the West). This inevitably presupposes the universality of Europe and the West as the subject of civilization. In other words, the so-called modernization, summarized as the Seo-se-dong-jeom (西勢東漸), thoroughly targeted and objectified Korea and East Asia. This study examines that the epistemological approach has fixed 'modernization theory,' 'Western centralism,' and even subordinate 'advanced country discourse.' Therefore, this study aims to set the direction for Korean studies suitable for Korea's current global status, distinguish from the Western perspective necessary for this, and to revive Korea as a regional country and the subject in the international society. The academic contribution of this study is the attempt to revive the subjectivity of Korea and post-Western Korean studies distinguish from the stigma of sub-regional studies distinguishing from the most of other mainstream Korean studies.
