초록
The rise in global temperatures is primarily due to significant greenhouse gas emissions caused by human activities, particularly carbon dioxide emissions. As the global economy expands and energy demand grows, finding ways to reduce carbon emission intensity becomes particularly urgent. Carbon emission intensity, which is the carbon emissions per unit of economic output, is an important indicator of the environmental efficiency of economic-financial activities. Technological innovation plays a central role in reducing carbon emission intensity, by promoting improvements in energy efficiency and developing low-carbon technologies, thereby enabling more sustainable economic growth models. This study uses panel quantile regression to investigate how technological innovation affects carbon emission intensity in China. It analyzes the contribution of technological innovation to carbon emission reduction at different levels of emission intensity. Empirical results show that in areas with relatively high emissions, the increase in technological innovation has a more pronounced suppressive effect on carbon emission intensity. Furthermore, this study also explores how major socioeconomic factors affect emission intensity in various regions. The findings reconfirm the EKC hypothesis of economic agglomeration, demonstrating the inverse U-shaped relationship between population and industrial agglomeration and carbon emission intensity, and confirming the U-shaped relationship between GDP and carbon emission intensity. Based on the research results, the paper ultimately provides strategic recommendations for policymakers to promote the transition of China's economy toward a low-carbon model.
