초록
This research investigates the extreme and seemingly irrational strategies employed by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) during the Sri Lankan Civil War. It argues that the group's behavior was shaped by an evolutionary process driven by intense competition within hostile environments. Initially, the LTTE’s reliance on violence functioned as an adaptive strategy to secure dominance among the Tamil population and resist Sinhalese oppression. Over time, however, this strategy became deeply ingrained, ultimately hindering the LTTE's ability to adapt to shifting political conditions and opportunities for peace. The study demonstrates how the LTTE’s uncompromising approach not only enabled it to achieve dominance among Tamil militant groups but also contributed to its eventual downfall. The policy implications underscore the importance of promoting a conciliatory approach in addressing minority grievances during conflicts and supporting moderate elements to foster a more adaptable political landscape conducive to peaceful resolution.
