본 연구는 노인 개개인이 느끼는 희망의 주관성을 과학적이고 체계적으로 분석, 설명하여 희망의 구조나 과정에 대한 포괄적이고도 깊은 이해를 하는데 있다. 본 연구는 행위자의 관점에서 출발하여 개인을 중시하고 개인에게 내재되어 있는 관점으로부터 주관적 현상의 차원을 이해하는데 유용한 Q 방법론을 적용하였다. 총 35개의 Q 표본과 24명의 P 표본이 본 연구에 사용되었으며, QUANL 분석프로그램을 이용하여 최종적으로 6개의 유형이 나타났다. 연구결과 노인의 희망에 관한 독특한 6개의 희망유형은 (1) 본질적 희망(The Essential Hope), (2) 관계적 희망(The Relational Hope), (3) 현시안적 희망(The Visible Value Oriented Hope), (4) 실용주의적 희망(The Pragmatic Hope), (5) 반영적 희망(The Reflective Hope), (6) 현실 지각적 희망(The Reality Perceptive Hope)으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 인생의 종반기에서 죽음이 가까움으로써 희망이 주는 중요한 의미를 갖게 하며, 또한 노년기의 독특한 희망의 주관성은 노인의 희망고취간호에 필수적인 근거가 될 것이다.
Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to discover type of hope among korean elderly and to indentify the major threads that structure various patterns of hope experienced by them. Background: An elders’ circumstantial characteristic is exposed to different problems that were not experienced throughout their lifetime. This means that it can be predicted that an individual will experience hope in a different form compared to other people that are healthy or other who suffer from a chronic illness or even from those that suffer from cancer. Method: Q-methodology, which is an approach designed to discover types in various subjective experiences, was used as the method for data collection and theory generation. Q-methodology involves five steps in its approach. Collected Q-statements are 112 from 220 adults through 7 open-ended questions. Among them, 35 statements were decided as a Q sample. The Q-sorting was carried out in 24 elderly peoples. Results: Six types of subjecive experiences of hope emerged as: (1) The Essential Hope, (2) The Relational Hope, (3) The Visible Value Oriented Hope, (4) The Pragmatic Hope, (5) The Reflective Hope, (6) The Reality Perceptive Hope. Conclusions: The marked differences in the sources of hope included the attitude towards death, the relation of existence, the meaning of life, the value of identity, the acceptance for reality, and the pursuit of value.
