교육을 통한 성장과 발달은 인간에게 매우 큰 변화를 가져다주는데, 특히 두드러진 발달적 현상을 나타내는 초등학교 학령아동들에게서 찾아볼 수 있다. 그러므로 초등교육은 ‘삶의 필연성’에 가장 근접해야 한다. 그럼에도 불구하고 초등교육에 대한 관심은 다른 교육영역에 비해 낮게 나타나고 있으며, 그 성격규정 또한 다양한 기본 가정을 전제로 하지 않는 편파적인 입장에서 혼란스럽게 이루어지고 있는 실정이다. 이에 초등교육의 성격을 규정하는 것은 본질적인 일이다. 그러나 무엇보다도 초등교육의 성격을 명확히 하기 위해서는 초등교육의 성격을 규정할 수 있는 방향을 제시해 줄 기본 전제가 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 초등교육을 보다 명확히 하기 위한 이해의 틀을 제시하고자 하였다. 그리하여 초등교육의 성격규정을 위한 준거로 아동을 바라보는 시각, 사회 및 문화적 요구와의 조화, 교육의 의미변화에 편승하는 학교기능을 제시하고 논의하였다. 이러한 준거는 초등교육의 의미해석을 보다 분명하게 함으로써 초등교육이 나아가야 할 방향을 제시해 줄 뿐만 아니라 초등교육의 정체성을 확립하는 데에도 도움이 될 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to search out the basic premise for characterization of elementary education. Because, it is basic and essential that characterization of the elementary education, above all it is necessary that basic premise which is present to direction for characterization of elementary education. The Frameworks for characterization of elementary education are as follows: First, how do we think children in a developmental process of life? This question is based on what is a human being? and what is human's significant concerns? Second, elementary education harmonize with social and cultural needs? Third, what is significant change of education, skills of elementary school are follow it? We should respect for children's personality, regard as developmental being and a being desire to learning. Also, we should consider social and cultural needs. Furthermore, we should recognize that elementary school is source of education, regard personal, economic, social, and cultural domain. After all, it is necessary that the understand of children, social and cultural needs, and elementary school's skills. The search of basic premise for characterization of elementary education will contribute to characterization and establishment of identity for elementary education.
