Abstract
Recently, juvenile delinquency has become a public concern, and the methods and frequencies have increased as corresponding with it. In order to reduce an increasing number of crimes related to juvenile, all levels of society have determined the causes of crime and take precautions. Numerous studies on juvenile delinquency claim that not only juveniles themselves but also environmental factors should be considered in order to determine the cause. This study focused on victimization experience, which was based on Robert Agnew's General Strain Theory. Agnew argues that not only direct victimization experiences but also indirect exposure to victimization and fear of victimization can have an effect on delinquency. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate effects of victimization on delinquency by classifying victimization into direct victimization, indirect victimization and predictable victimization. This study analyzed the materials on juvenile crime victimization researched by Korean Institute of Criminology in regression analysis. As a result of this study, it showed that not only direct victimization experiences but also indirect victimization and fear of crime as predictable victimization had an effect on delinquency. However, given self-control and attachment, it was confirmed that influence of predictable victimization was lost, and self-controlled juveniles were unlikely to get involved in delinquency even though they had a fear of crime.
