Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze how thinking got to have a nature of qualitativeness, by referring to the correlation between experience and concept of thinking of Dewey, to disclose the distorted aspect of current school education and suggest an alternative against this distorted aspect. To Dewey, an experience is not limited to a behavior itself and beyond the behavior, it is extended into a thinking, which acts as the premise of the experience, thus certainly his concept of experience cannot be understood properly without the clear definition of a thinking flow. This is because the integration of behaviors does not mean a physical combination of trying aspect and undergoing aspect of behaviors but means a ‘change in quality’. The qualitative change is rightly related to ‘qualitativeness’, but the qualitative change has a limit that this change cannot be materialized only by qualitativeness itself. When the meaning of qualitativeness is analyzed considering its correlation with thinking, it can be found the thinking has a nature of qualitativeness, that is, thinking is a qualitative thought. In other words, the qualitativeness is what was qualified into a character by each quality integrated through an experience, and this qualitativeness can come only when the thinking is in a qualitative status where the thinking cannot be quantified. The thinking has one character that cannot be quantified, thus the flow of thinking should be analyzed in the contextual whole, but unfortunately a focus is put only on the aspect of thinking flow, which leads to quantification of the thinking into a reflective thought and qualitative thought. The harmful effects of comprehending a thinking as what was quantified as described in the above are now manifested as school violence, suicide, and individualism in school education. School subjects are an association complex of knowledge formed logically, If the subjects are limited to a reflective aspect of thinking, the education of subjects comes to just stay in the understanding of subject contents, so finally the experience of a student cannot help being just separated into school experience and daily experience. Thus, only when school education is implemented based on a qualitative thought, subjects can be a means that enables the life of a
