대전환의 시대, 학교와 사회의 상호작용 원리 탐구

초록

본 연구는 우리가 마주하고 있는 거대한 전환의 성격을 분석하여 학교가 민주 시민을 기르는 공간으로서 본질적 역할을 수행하기 위해, 사회와 어떻게 상호작용 해야하는지에 대한 원리를 철학적으로 탐구한 것이다. 우리는 코로나19라는 거대한 전환의 시간을 지나고 있으나 우리 삶에 그것보다 훨씬 지속적이며 포괄적인 영향을 미치고 있는 전환에 주목할 필요가 있다. 연구자는 그것을 ‘세계화’, ‘생태화’, ‘디지털화’로 분석하였으며, 이는 기존에 우리가 인식하고 있던 학교의 역할에 대한 근원적 전환을 요구하고 있다. 연구자는 학교와 사회의 상호작용 원리를 도출하기 위한 거점으로서 듀이의 ‘학교 환경 구성의 원리’를 분석하였다. 나아가 듀이가 제시한 ‘단순화’, ‘순수화’, ‘균형화’를 현재 우리가 마주한 대전환의 상황 및 후기저작에 등장하는 개념과 연결하여 각각 ‘상호작용적 변화 추구의 원리로서 단순화’, ‘통합적 재구성의 시작으로서 순수화’, ‘생태적 세계관 회복으로서 균형화’로 재맥락화하였다. 더불어 학교가 사회와 상호작용하는 과정에서 ‘통합적 연결의 공간’으로서 기능을 회복하는 것의 중요성을 제기하였다.

Abstract

This study philosophically explores the principles of how schools should interact with society to play their essential role as a space for nurturing democratic citizens by analyzing the various transformations affecting society. Although the world is undergoing significant change caused by COVID-19, it is worth paying attention to the transformations that have had a far more lasting and comprehensive impact on our lives. “globalization”, “ecologicalization”, and “digitalization”, which have required a fundamental change in the traditional role of schools. Dewey's “Principle of school environment composition” was analyzed as a base for deriving the principle of interaction between school and society; furthermore, by linking Dewey's “simplification”, “purification”, and “balancing” with the current transformations and the concepts appearing in his later works, I recontextualized it as “principle of interactive change seeking” and “purification as the beginning of an integrative reconstruction”, and “balancing as an ecological worldview restoration”. This study underlines the importance of restoring the function of the school as a “space of integrated connection” in the process of interaction with society.
