‘비판적 북한학’ 시론: 사회비판이론의 관점에서

이글은 북한학의 학문적 정체성과 과제 및 체계에 대한 나름의 시론적 구상을 ‘비판적 북한학’이라는 표제 하에서 제시한다. 이러한 구상을 제시하는 데에서 필자는 비판이론의 역사를 주로 참조했다. 비판이론의 역사가 사회비판이론 일반의 학문적 정체성과 비판의 기준 및 과제 그리고 사회비판을 위한 학제적 연구 기획 등에 대한 나름의 풍부한 경험과 성찰들을 담고 있다고 보기 때문이다. 비판적 북한학이라는 구상을 제시하기 위해 먼저 북한‘학’이 단지 객관적 세계 기술을 목표로 하는 전통이론이 아닌 비판이론의 성격을 가져야만 한다는 점을 밝혔다(2). 다음으로는 ‘내재적 접근’을 둘러싼 기존의 논쟁을 실마리로 삼아서 비판적 북한학이 봉착할 수밖에 없는 비판의 기준 혹은 토대 설정과 관련된 문제들을 다루었다(3). 마지막으로는 이러한 논의에 기초하여 비판적 북한학의 과제와 학제적 연구 체계에 대한 구상을 개략적으로 나마 제시해 보았다(4). 이와 같은 비판적 북한학 구상을 통해서 이글은 북한학이 비판이론의 성격을 가질 수밖에 없으며, 이 경우 비판의 규범은 ‘내재적인 동시에 초월적’이어야 하고, 이에 기초한 비판적 북한학의 연구 체계는 대안사회에 대한 해방적 관심의 주도 하에 진행되는 학제적 연구가 되어야 함을 밝혔다. 이러한 비판적 북한학 구상은 북한사회의 부정의 구조와 그에 대한 내부적 비판과 저항의 가능성 및 동력에 대한 연구를 통해 향후 북한사회의 변화를 전망하는 데에도 일정부분 기여할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This thesis aims to propose an introductory study plan, called critical North Korean studies, which concerns the scientific identity, task, and system of North Korean studies. For this, I referred mainly to the history of critical social theory. Because I think that the history of critical social theory contains abundant experiences and reflections on the scientific identity of critical social theory in general, the normative standard of social critique and the project for interdisciplinary study for social critique. For this, firstly, I explained that North Korean studies is not a traditional theory, which aims to describe the world objectively, but a kind of critical theory(Ⅱ). Secondly, starting with the existing debates about 'immanent approach', I treated the problems of the standard or foundation for critique that critical North Korean studies has to solve inevitably(Ⅲ). Lastly, I proposed the idea about the task and the system of interdisciplinary critical North Korean studies(Ⅳ). By these considerations, I showed that North Korean studies should be a kind of critical theory, the standards of that critique have to be an immanent transcendence, and North Korean studies, based on it, should be an interdisciplinary study, which is guided by emancipatory cognitive interest. The project of critical North Korean studies may contribute to explain and predict the changes of North Korean society through the studies on the structure of injustices in North Korean society, and on the possibilities and dynamics of the inner critiques and resists by North Korean people themselves.
