Abstract

A researcher examined the plan for the assessing literary competence through ‘process assessment’, especially ‘narrative retelling’. A literary competence is the purpose of a literary teaching as a intentional object that is cultivated to students through the literary teaching. For assessing this purpose, it must points the comprehension about the literary competence and the assessment based it. This assesment pursues criterion referenced assessment. It must be judged whether what a successful reader can know or can do for that a criterion referenced assessment is practiced successfully for the assessing literary competence. This is related the decision which students knew about the text read, and which a self reflection is. For this decision, ‘narrative retelling’ could be utilized effectively the way. The teacher may grasp the manifestation aspect of literary competence and the student's actual literary reading process through the assessment utilizing ‘narrative retelling’ And may become a more excellent performer designing the instruction for the promoting students' literary competence.
