본 연구는 서정주 시집 질마재 神話를 대상으로, 그의 시에 나타나는 기의 양상과 그 의미를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 서정주 시에서 발현되는 기의 양상은 우주적 사유로 이끄는 정기(精氣), 토속적 삶에서 발산하는 화기(和氣), 풍속으로 담아내는 영기(靈氣)로 그 유형을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 서정주 시에 나타나는 이러한 기의 양상은 두 가지 의미를 지닌다. 하나는, 서정주 시에 나타나는 전통 지향성에 대한 의미를 다른 시각으로 풀어볼 수 있었다. 서정주가 천착하고 있는 전통성은 있는 현실을 부정하고 있어야 하는 현실을 담기 위한 시적인 기법이라 할 수 있다. 이는 서정주가 마주한 근대현실을 거부하는 자리에서 그가 추구하는 있어야 하는 현실을 시에 담아내고 있는 것으로 볼 수 있기 때문이다 다른 하나는, 창작 방법의 측면에서 서정주 시가 갖는 시적 기법의 의미를 살펴볼 수 있었다. 그것은 질마재 神話가 신화에 주목한 관념인가, 질마재에 초점을 둔 사실의 기록인가에 대한 고찰이기도 하다. 서정주는 ‘질마재’라는 실제적인 공간을 바탕으로 하여, 그가 현실에서 바라는 어떤 세계상을 이야기로 담아낸 것으로 볼 수 있었다. 작품에서 현실은 시인이 희구하는 삶의 표상으로 간주할 수 있기 때문이다.
Abstract
This study aimed to examine the aspects and meaning of vital energy that appear in Seo Jeong-ju's poetry collection, Jilmajae Myth. The aspects of vital energy expressed in Seo Jeong-ju's poetry can be examined in terms of its types: soul energy that leads to cosmic thinking, polite energy that emanates from indigenous life, and mysterious energy that is expressed through customs. The aspect of vital energy that appears in Seo Jeong-ju's poetry has two meanings. First, it can be interpreted from a different perspective on the meaning of the traditional orientation that appears in Seo Jeong-ju's poetry. Another thing is that we can examine the meaning of the poetic technique of Seo Jeong-ju's poetry in terms of the creative method. Seo Jeong-ju's work can be seen as a story about a world he hopes for in reality, based on a real space called 'Jilmajae'. This is because reality in the work can be considered a symbol of the life he desires.
