Abstract

This study attempted to determine the impact of nursing students’ digital literacy, academic achievement, and critical thinking propensity on self-directed learning ability. The subjects of the study were 188 nursing students from one university located in C city using a questionnaire. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed with SPSS 25.0 through descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results showed that digital literacy accounted for 4.23 points, academic achievement accounted for 32.76 points, critical thinking propensity accounted for 104.36 and self-directed learning ability accounted for 166.45 points. Significant differences were found by academic year for digital literacy(F=8.16, p<.001), academic achievement(F=7.21, p<.001), critical thinking propensity(F=8.08, p<.001), and self-directed learning ability(F=10.77, p<.001). All variables showed positive correlations. Multiple regression analysis shows the factors affecting self-directed learning ability were critical thinking tendency(β=.67, p<.001) and digital literacy(β=.18, p=.002), with an explanatory power of 61.4%. To enhance self-directed learning ability, it is essential to develop and implement educational programs that apply grade-appropriate, tailored teaching methods to simultaneously improve critical thinking and digital literacy. Therefore, nursing education institutions should actively work towards advancing the education of nursing students for their future development.
