본 논문은 주요 사회적 지원영역에 걸쳐 독거노인의 자녀와의 상호 지원 유형이 어떠한지를 파악하고 각 사회적 지원 유형의 특성이 어떠한지를 분석하고자 하였다. 사회적 지원영역은 정서적, 도구적, 신체적, 경제적 영역을 포함하였으며 각 영역별로 지원 유형을 제공형, 수혜형, 상호형, 무교환형으로 분류하였다. 2008년 노인실태조사자료를 활용하였으며, 독거노인의 인구학적, 사회경제적, 건강변수들이 자녀와의 사회적 지원 유형에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 파악하기 위해 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 독거노인의 사회적 지원 유형 현황을 살펴본 결과, 정서적 영역에서는 상호형이 가장 높은 비중을 차지했으며, 도구적 영역과 신체적 영역에서는 무교환형, 경제적 영역에서는 수혜형이 가장 높은 비율을 차지하였다. 독거노인의 사회적 지원 유형에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석한 결과, 성별, 연령, 월평균소득, 건강상태 등이 사회적 지원 유형에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 여성노인이 남성노인에 비해 대체로 상호형에 속할 가능성은 높은 반면 무교환형에 속할 가능성은 낮았으며, 연령이 증가할수록 대체로 수혜형의 비율이 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 월평균소득과 건강상태는 대체로 사회적 지원 유형에 유사한 방향으로 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났는데, 소득이 높고 건강상태가 좋을수록 상호형에 속할 가능성은 높아지고 무교환형이나 수혜형에 속할 가능성은 감소하는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
This study tries to find the intergenerational exchange patterns and affecting factors between the elderly living alone and their adult children. In order to achieve this goal, we assume that the areas of social support were composed of emotional, instrumental, physical (personal care), and financial support. Also, we categorize the intergenerational exchange patterns into following four types; balanced exchange, underbenefited, overbenefited, and no-exchange. The data used in this study were "2008 National Data on the Elderly." The data were analyzed by statistical methods such as descriptive statistics and logistic regression analysis. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, we found that the highest percentage patterns among the types of social support were the balanced exchange pattern in emotional area, no-exchange pattern in instrumental and physical area, and overbenefited exchange pattern in financial support area. Second, gender, age, income, and health status have significant impact on intergenerational exchange patterns. Women are more likely than men to fall into the balanced exchange pattern and less likely to be in the no-exchange pattern. The likelihood of maintaining overbenefited exchange is increasing with age. The elderly with a reciprocal relationships were likely to have high income and good health condition. In other words, the elderly with high income and high physical functioning were more likely to engage in the balanced exchange than in the overbenefited exchange or no-exchange.
