Abstract

Why virtually worthless pieces of paper have positive purchasing-powers is discussed in light of Marx's value theory. Different monetary regimes are seen in common principles. The nature of money is explored in this regard. The credit and banking systems are conceived as products of the contradictions between the social character of production and the private character of appropriation. Banking institutions and credit systems are seen in the historical and the socio-political contexts. So-called bubble prices and inflation phenomena are all explained in terms of Marx's labor-value theory.
