Abstract
This study aims to explore family reaction toward disclosure of sexual assault experience by the victims and examine the effect of family reaction on victim’s sequelae. The authors analyzed 88 victims’ cases with experience of sexual assault and disclosing the assault to the family. The analysis discovered that the family reaction toward the disclosure can be categorized into three latent classes and the three groups corresponding to these classes showed distinctly different sequelae patterns. The authors discuss patterns of family reaction experienced by the victims, the importance of family reaction, and the necessity of expanding the focus of public policy from supporting individual victims to supporting the family.
